Bhanjanagar, March 28: Odisha’s Forest and Environment department is launching a new project to install 100 AI-powered cameras and 16 surveillance towers in Ghumusar North and South forest divisions in Ganjam district. This initiative aims to curb poaching, illegal logging, and protect wildlife.

Bhanjanagar MLA, Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, highlighted that the AI cameras would help track illegal activities and ensure the safety of endangered species. In addition to the surveillance, plans to develop eco-tourism infrastructure, including tourist cottages and a new elephant hospital, are underway to promote conservation and local growth.

Following successful trials in Similipal and Rourkela, the state intends to expand the project across all 51 forest divisions in Odisha.
