25th March 2025, Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to begin production at its new semiconductor plant by December this year. Technology Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling shared this update in the state assembly. The plant, located in an area of 2,000 square feet, is part of Odisha’s vision to become a key IT and semiconductor hub. Additionally, the state is working on 30 IT projects, expected to generate over 34,000 job opportunities.

Plans are also in place to establish a cable landing station in Puri and data centers in Koraput and Kendujhar to boost technological infrastructure.

Boosting Connectivity in Rural Areas

Dr. Mahaling further highlighted connectivity issues, revealing that 764 out of 1,176 gram panchayats in the state lack mobile and internet services. To address this, the government is working to set up 4,277 new mobile towers as part of the Digital India initiative. Currently, 2,085 towers are operational, with 2,199 more expected to be completed by June. These efforts aim to improve digital access in rural and Naxal-affected regions.
