Central Government Employees Could Receive Higher Dearness Allowance, With a Fresh DA Increase Expected to Be Announced Soon

New Delhi, Sept 11 [UDN}:: The Central Government revises the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees twice a year. Earlier this year, DA was increased by 2% with effect from January 1. Following the revision, the Dearness Allowance for central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners rose from 58% to 60%.

Another revision of the DA is now due for July 2026. However, the government has not yet made any official announcement regarding the next increase. According to ongoing discussions, the government may increase DA by 3% from July 2026. If the projection turns out to be correct, the DA for central government employees could rise to 63% of basic pay.

DA Could Rise to 64%

The trend in the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) indicates that another significant increase in DA may be possible this time as well. Discussions regarding the DA hike have intensified among government departments, with employees closely calculating the likely impact of the revision on their salaries.

Alongside the DA revision, discussions surrounding the 8th Pay Commission are also continuing. The Central Government constituted the 8th Pay Commission after November, with Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai serving as its chairperson.

The commission has been holding consultations with government departments, employees and pensioners to prepare recommendations concerning salaries, pensions, allowances and service conditions. It is conducting meetings across the country to gather feedback from employees and other stakeholders.

A recent consultation meeting was held in Jaipur. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Puducherry on September 9, followed by meetings in Chandigarh from September 16 to 18. Subsequently, an interaction session with employees is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on October 7 and 8.

The commission is expected to submit its report to the Central Government by May–June 2027.
