Bhubaneswar,Aug 28 [UDN}:For the 2026–27 academic session, the number of MBBS seats has been increased by 50 each in two medical colleges in Odisha. VIMSAR, Burla, a government medical college, has received 50 additional seats, while private medical college DRIEMS has also received 50 additional seats.
With this increase, Odisha’s 14 government medical colleges will have a total of 1,850 MBBS seats. Of these, 15% will be filled through the All India Quota, while the remaining 85%, or 1,572 seats, will be available to Odisha students.
Similarly, the total number of MBBS seats in private medical colleges has increased by 50 from last year to 400. Overall, 2,250 MBBS seats will be available for admission in the state’s medical colleges this year.
Except for the All India Quota seats, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) is conducting counselling for the remaining MBBS seats. This year, OJEE will conduct counselling for 1,972 MBBS seats across government and private medical colleges.
OJEE will conduct counselling for 212 seats each at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, and MKCG Medical College, Berhampur. VIMSAR, Burla, will have counselling for 213 seats, while Koraput and Baripada medical colleges will have 106 seats each. Balangir, Balasore, Talcher, Phulbani, Puri, Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna and Keonjhar medical colleges will have counselling for 85 seats each.
50 Seats Each Added at VIMSAR and DRIEMS
The state government’s Health Department had sought an increase in MBBS seats in several medical colleges for the current academic year. However, the National Medical Commission did not approve an additional 50 seats sought for Jajpur Medical College. Therefore, its intake will remain unchanged, with counselling being conducted for 43 seats.
Meanwhile, OJEE will also conduct counselling for 150 seats at DRIEMS, Cuttack, and 100 seats at Hi-Tech Medical College, Rourkela.
