Bhubaneswar, Aug 21 [UDN}:The water level of Hirakud Dam is continuing to rise steadily amid the prevailing heavy rainfall and increased inflow into the reservoir. In view of the rising water level and the growing inflow of water into the dam, the authorities have opened two more sluice gates to regulate the reservoir level and facilitate the safe discharge of excess water downstream.
With the opening of the additional two gates, floodwater is now being released through a total of 17 gates of Hirakud Dam. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, particularly the inflow and outflow of water, as well as the water levels in the downstream areas.
The continuous release of water through the gates is aimed at maintaining the reservoir at a safe level and preventing excessive pressure on the dam due to the increasing inflow. Officials are keeping a close watch on the overall situation and are taking necessary measures in accordance with the prevailing hydrological conditions.
As the water level continues to increase, residents living in low-lying and downstream areas are being advised to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the administration. The situation surrounding the Hirakud reservoir and downstream river system is being continuously monitored, with further decisions on opening or closing gates to be taken depending on the inflow and water level.
