Nabarangpur: June 11:In the zonal-level Under-14 Inter-District Chief Minister Trophy-26 Championship being held at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Berhampur, both the Nabarangpur district boys’ and girls’ teams emerged as zonal champions and advanced to the semi-finals.
In the zonal-level final matches, the boys’ team defeated Kandhamal by 2-0 goals, while the girls’ team thrashed Gajapati by 6-0 goals. The teams have now left for Rourkela to participate in the semi-finals.
Sapan Bairagi, Firoz Hial and Lalu Harijan are serving as the coaches of the teams, while Shashank Sekhar Behera and Durjya Harijan are managing the teams.
The success of both the boys’ and girls’ teams has brought pride to Nabarangpur at the state level. After receiving the news, Nabarangpur Sports Association President and District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Association Secretary Prahallad Tripathy, Vice-President M. Bala Krishna Rao, Joint Secretary Manoj Kumar Pattnaik, Sports Secretary Jyoti Paricha, Indoor Secretary Krishna Pattnaik, Hockey Secretary Durga Mallik, Women’s Secretary Eng. Chandana Mallik, Cricket Secretary Ashok Nayak, along with other members of the sports association, congratulated the teams.
It is noteworthy that in the tournament semi-finals, the Nabarangpur boys’ team will face Jajpur, while the girls’ team will take on Bhubaneswar.
