Australian Consul General Visits CSIR-IMMT to Strengthen Critical Minerals Collaboration

On March 18, Australian Consul General in Kolkata, HE Hugh Boylan, visited CSIR-IMMT in Bhubaneswar to explore advancements in critical minerals technology. Boylan engaged with Director Ramanuj Narayan and researchers, touring the Advanced Minerals Processing Pilot Plant and Seabed Minerals Extractive Metallurgy Pilot Plant. He also took part in a tree plantation initiative on the campus.

Boylan highlighted the growing cooperation between India and Australia, particularly in the field of critical minerals, and emphasized the potential for further partnerships in skill development and technology commercialization.

CSIR-IMMT’s Chief Scientist Kali Sanjay discussed ongoing collaborations with Australian institutions such as the University of South Australia and CSIRO, focusing on critical minerals research. The two institutions recently signed an R&D agreement to develop technology for recovering titanium and vanadium from Indian minerals.

Director Narayan stressed the importance of continued joint efforts in critical minerals to ensure sustainable and efficient supply chains, aligning with India’s National Critical Mineral Mission.
