Celebrating the Shabar Community’s Legacy in Odisha

25th March 2025: Odisha’s Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, recently attended the “India’s Global Shabar Community” establishment day event in Kantilo, Nayagarh district. He highlighted that the presence of Honorable President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, added great significance and grandeur to the occasion.

The Shabar community, one of the oldest indigenous groups in Odisha, has played a vital role in the region’s development. Chief Minister Majhi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving the Shabar’s rich cultural heritage while empowering them. He spoke about how granting forest land rights to the community is strengthening their position and promoting their development.

The Chief Minister also discussed ongoing efforts to boost tourism in the area. Plans are in place to improve infrastructure and beautify the Nilamadhab temple, turning it into a global spiritual and tourist destination. He encouraged the district officials to prepare a detailed project plan to transform this area into a world-class site.

On this special occasion, President Smt. Droupadi Murmu visited the Nilamadhab temple and participated in a prayer ceremony. The event was also attended by Odisha’s Governor, Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati, along with other key leaders.

This celebration marks an important step in recognizing the cultural and historical importance of the Shabar community, while also reflecting the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve their welfare and protect their traditions.
