Rasulpur: Aug 7 [UDN}:Due to the first flood of the year in the Brahmani and Kharasrota rivers, around 1,300 people from 14 villages under 10 gram panchayats of Rasulpur block in Jajpur district have been affected. After the water level receded, the flood-hit residents have started returning home, cleaning their houses, and resuming normal life.
The situation has still not returned to normal in low-lying areas like Kanthia Sahi under Bandhadih panchayat and Chakagopalpur under Prathamakhanda panchayat. Affected people in these areas have been sheltered in government buildings and are being provided cooked food.
As there is a risk of diseases like fever, diarrhoea, and snake bites after floods, officials are visiting affected areas and creating health awareness among the people. Residents have been advised to properly clean houses before entering those submerged in floodwater, remain alert against reptiles, and avoid going outside at night.
Private tube wells in flood-affected areas are being disinfected. The affected people have been advised not to defecate in open areas, consume freshly cooked food, drink boiled water, and protect food from flies.
Rasulpur BDO Satyānanda Dash said that in areas facing a shortage of safe drinking water, the Rural Water Supply Department has arranged water supply through tankers.
Meanwhile, officials from the tehsil, block, agriculture, horticulture, and animal resources departments have started field visits to assess flood-related damages. After receiving the reports, the government will be informed about the extent of losses.
On Saturday, a team led by BDO Satyānanda Dash, along with Assistant Engineer of the Rural Drinking Water Department Manasi Rout, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, ANMs, and health workers, visited several flood-affected areas and educated people about health and safety measures.
