Heavy Rain Likely in Odisha Till June 24: IMD Issues Alerts for Several Districts

Bhubaneswar, June 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Odisha till June 24, with the monsoon system currently active over the region. Due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, several parts of the state are experiencing widespread rain, disrupting normal life in some areas.

The IMD has issued an Orange Warning for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday. Additionally, Yellow Warnings have been issued for Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, and Subarnapur, where moderate to heavy rain is expected.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, rainfall activity is expected to intensify over the next two days, particularly in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, with thunderstorm and wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 km/h in some places.

Districts like Balasore, Deogarh, Anugul, Boudh, Jajpur, and Bhadrak are also expected to receive heavy rainfall, with warnings in place for potential lightning and localized flooding.

Residents are advised to stay alert, especially in low-lying areas, and follow official updates for safety measures.
