Malkangiri, June 11: At the ongoing “Gaon Aamba Pasara” (Village Mango Fair) in Malkangiri, four new varieties of mangoes were added today, taking the total number of available varieties to more than 16. The crowd of customers visiting the fair to see and buy different varieties of local and out-of-state mangoes is increasing day by day.
The world-famous Miyazaki mango has emerged as the main attraction of the fair. Originating from Japan, this mango is known as one of the most expensive mango varieties in the world. Its price is said to range from around ₹35,000 to more than ₹2 lakh per kilogram. Weighing nearly 850 grams, the mango has been displayed inside a glass enclosure, making it a special center of attraction for visitors.
Apart from this, several other varieties such as Dhanapati, Mallika, Dasheri, Totapuri, and Temerukoli are also available at the fair.
Considering the growing popularity of the event, prominent social worker Ramakrishna Choudhury submitted a written request to the District Collector, urging that the fair’s scheduled closing date be extended from June 5 to June 15.
Taking the request seriously, the District Collector reportedly directed the Chief Development Officer of the Zilla Parishad to examine the matter and take necessary steps. With the Raja festival approaching, there is optimism that the duration of the fair may be extended.
If the proposal is approved, mango lovers of the district will get an opportunity to enjoy a wide range of mango varieties at the “Gaon Aamba Pasara” until the Raja festival.
