abarangpur,Sept 25 [UDN}:: In view of warnings of moderate to heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds gusting at speeds of 40–50 kmph, the Nabarangpur district administration has intensified rescue, relief and restoration operations across the district.
The administration has taken immediate action following incidents of house damage, uprooted trees and waterlogging reported from different parts of the district. Polythene sheets, dry food and other essential assistance have been provided to affected families. Wherever necessary, people have been shifted to safer locations and shelter centres as a precautionary measure.
In Soruguda village under Nandahandi block, a woman was injured after a boundary wall collapsed. The block administration rescued her and arranged medical treatment. She was also provided ₹5,000 assistance from the Red Cross Fund.
With water levels rising near the bridges at Dahana, Bangarinal and Auliguma, police and fire personnel have been deployed at vulnerable locations. Necessary restrictions have also been imposed on vehicular movement to ensure public safety.
Trees that fell at various locations due to strong winds and heavy rainfall have been cleared with the joint efforts of the Fire Services personnel, Revenue Department officials and local residents. Drainage and water evacuation operations are also continuing in waterlogged areas.
The district administration has appealed to the public not to attempt crossing flood-prone roads, bridges or swollen waterways. People have also been advised to refrain from operating boats at river ghats during the adverse weather conditions and to strictly follow safety advisories issued by the administration.
The administration said that field-level monitoring and emergency response measures are continuing to ensure the safety of residents and provide timely assistance to those affected by the heavy rainfall.
