Residents and local representatives actively participated in the Environmental Panchayat Programme in Jharigaon, highlighting the need for collective action towards a greener future.

Jharigaon, July 15 [UDN}: The environment preserved by our ancestors is gradually being destroyed. The time has come for everyone to become aware and work towards recreating and protecting the natural environment inherited from previous generations by planting trees and reducing environmental degradation in their respective areas.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Environmental Panchayat Programme organized by Sambad at the premises of Jharigaon Higher Secondary School, Jharigaon MLA Narsingh Bhatra emphasized the importance of environmental conservation. He stated that protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility and stressed the need to balance development with environmental protection. He also called for restricting the excessive use of chemical fertilizers in agricultural lands.
Guest of honour Birendra Kumar Padhi, President of Sambad Sahitya Ghar, spoke about the causes, impacts, and solutions related to climate change. He urged people to adopt changes in their lifestyles and food habits to help address environmental challenges. He further stated that environmental concerns must be considered before undertaking developmental activities.
Another distinguished guest, environmentalist Udar Nath, highlighted that significant climate changes have occurred in Jharigaon Block over the past 30 years. As a result, forests, wildlife, and natural resources have suffered severe damage. He appealed for meetings to be held at the Panchayat level to raise awareness among the public and find solutions to these problems.
Jharigaon Acting Ranger Sushanta Kumar Singh stated that climate change has adversely affected the local ecosystem and agricultural practices. He urged everyone to become aware, spread awareness among others, and participate actively in large-scale plantation drives and environmental protection activities.
The programme was chaired by Shiva Prasad Pattnaik, Headmaster of Jharigaon Upper Primary School, who stressed the need for collective action to tackle climate change. He explained that climate change is being driven by factors such as deforestation and environmental degradation.
Nalini Mishra, Nabarangpur district correspondent of Kanak News, coordinated the programme, while Ramesh Pattnaik, Sambad correspondent for Jharigaon Block, delivered the vote of thanks.
Among others present at the event were environmental activists Giri Majhi, Prafulla Pradhani, Pratap Bas, Biji Rath, Shankar Sahu, Firoz Sodangi, Bipun Nanda, Biswajit Nayak, Ram Jangali, Tatha Gouda, along with many students and local residents.
The programme concluded with a tree plantation drive in the school premises by the chief guest and other dignitaries.
