Kotpad, Sept 25 [UDN}: A skill development camp focusing on natural handicrafts and environment-friendly practices was organised at the Government Upgraded High School in Asana under Kotpad block of Koraput district.
The camp was conducted under the aegis of the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department of the Government of Odisha, with the objective of promoting the use of naturally available materials for creating useful items and encouraging environmentally sustainable practices in daily life as well as at the school level.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Headmaster Gobinda Majhi, who lit the ceremonial lamp before the idol of Lord Jagannath. Senior teacher Pradip Pradhan extended his cooperation during the inaugural session.
During the training programme, participants were introduced to ways of utilising various materials available in nature to prepare different useful items without significant expenditure. Special emphasis was placed on how such naturally made products and eco-friendly techniques could be incorporated into everyday activities and used in educational institutions.
Around 50 teachers from different schools participated in the skill development camp. The participating teachers gained practical knowledge and insights into various aspects of natural handicrafts, sustainable practices and environment-friendly initiatives.
The organisers highlighted the importance of spreading awareness about environmentally responsible practices among students and teachers and encouraging greater use of locally available natural resources.
The initiative has reportedly received appreciation from various sections of the community for its focus on skill development, creativity, sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
