Koraput: Oct 7 [UDN}:The Forest Department has decided to develop the Paruamali Cave in Nandapur area of Koraput district as a tourist destination, following demands from local residents.
Located along the boundary of Kasandi and Khemunduguda Gram Panchayats, the massive cave is believed to have enough space to accommodate around 5,000–6,000 people at a time. The cave also has religious significance, as Lord Vishnu is worshipped here. The annual Chandan Yatra is also observed at the site, attracting devotees and visitors from nearby areas.
Despite its religious and tourism potential, the cave currently lacks a proper all-weather road, making access difficult for visitors. Following public demands for the development of the site, a joint team comprising officials from the Forest Department, Block administration and Revenue Department visited Paruamali Cave on the direction of the Koraput DFO.
During the inspection, the team assessed the availability of land near the hill, the feasibility of constructing an approach road and other basic infrastructure and visitor amenities required for developing the site. The findings will be compiled into a report and submitted to the Koraput Collector and DFO.
Once the necessary approval and directions are received, development work will be undertaken at Paruamali Cave. The administration also plans to include the site in the official tourism circuit/list of Nandapur, potentially giving a major boost to religious and eco-tourism in the region.
